Structural Geology
Tectonics and structural geology exerts primary controls on basin development, sediment fill history, thermal history, burial history, hydrocarbon migration, trap formation and integrity. Having a strong understanding of a basin's structural geology is therefore critical for proper evaluation of petroleum systems, plays and prospects.
Unravelling complex multi-phase structural histories (e.g. Australia and SE Asia) takes years of expert level study and analysis. In some cases, understanding the structural geology in these regions can hold the key to unlocking the critical success factors of a play or prospect. However, structural geology is often rushed through at a low level by generalist geologists.
Structural geology is a key pillar of PetroStruc's approach. We can provide structurally consistent basin to trap scale seismic interpretations, integrated structural and sequence stratigraphy assessment and fault seal risk evaluations.
2D/3D structural restoration can be performed to reduce uncertainty in structural interpretation. It is also an important tool for reconstructing basin evolution when linked to sequence stratigraphic models and palaeogeographic maps. This integration provides powerful insight into the systematics and predictability of petroleum systems and plays.
Fault seal prediction can be critical to volumetrics & risking evaluation of fault bound prospects. We have expertise in using fault seal software (e.g. TrapTester, Petrel) to generate Allan Maps, calculate Leak Points and produce trapped hydrocarbons distributions.
